The Readers' Choice Awards for Collectors

By , About.com Guide

Once again it's time for the Readers' Choice Awards on About. There's no prize -- just the bragging rights that come with getting recognized by the readers of one of the biggest networks on the web.

These awards showcase the best of the best. The best and favorite resources, blogs, products, people, organizations, and services in categories across About.com. Readers make the nominations and About.com Guides will tabulate the results, selecting the finalists in each category. After the nominations close, it will be time for the voting to begin! Everyone gets to choose, vote and even campaign for the best in each category.

On the Collectibles site, it's up to you to nominate and vote for your favorite resources, websites, social media networks, blogs and television shows aimed for collectors. A few new categories have been added for 2012, along with the three favorites from 2011.

Timeline:
Nominations open: January 18, 2012, 12:00 A.M. EST
Nominations End: February 15, 2012, 11:59 P.M. EST
Voting Begins: February 22, 2012, 12:00 A.M. EST
Voting Ends: March 21, 2012, 11:59 P.M. EST
Winners Announced: March 30, 2012

Note: Yes, you are allowed to nominate yourself or your own website, as well as ask your followers to nominate and vote for you.

Now onto the categories:

Best Blogs and Websites for Collectors

© About.com
Is there a blog you follow religiously? A blog or website that is a great resource for your collecting hobby, one that shares tips, hints, articles and such? Or perhaps journals the personal collecting story of the writer? There are many great ones out there, some who blog only to sell (but are very informative), others that share their adventures in collecting and then there are blogs and websites who help both novices and experts navigate the world of collecting in selling and buying. It's your turn to vote for your favorites and help give them recognition as a Readers' Choice Award winner.

Favorite Social Media Network

It's been an explosive growth as many sites have changed the way we spend our time online and interact with fellow collectors. In this category you can nominate your favorite spot to interact with others.

Note: For the purposes of this category, a Social Media Network is defined as a website where you follow others (or be followed) subscribe to and/or share information with others.

Best Place to Shop Online

This is the second year for this category and although the nominations might be similar to the Best Place to Sell Online category, if you're like me, you have definite spots to shop, but you might not want to sell there for a variety of reasons.

I won't give any hints or clues, but I find myself shopping at completely different places than I did just a year ago. What about you? What's your favorite spot to shop online for that stuff you love to collect?

Best Spot to Sell Online

It's also the second year for this category, a hotly contested one in 2011. So the question is, how will this year's nominations stack up to last year? Are there any newcomers to the block? Have you switched selling venues because one was getting difficult to use, fees were better or just because you needed a change?

Favorite Company for Holiday Collectors

As more and more people get into decorating for the various holidays throughout the year, more companies are coming out with lines to satisfy every budget and every decorating style. What are your favorite companies for holiday collecting and decorating? Do you eagerly await each year to find out what the line will be like, or worry that you might miss an edition that is limited to only one year? Or do you just decide that you will try and get at least one new piece a year from that designer or company?

Best Online Resources for Collectors

This is a new category for 2012. We all have our tried and trusted books/publications that we've used for years and thankfully, there are still publishers putting out terrific new annuals. This Readers' Choice Awards category is for all those books, magazines, newspaper resources that have helped you over the years. Nominate your favorite new resource or if a favorite book is no longer in print, it's still eligible to be nominated.

Favorite TV Shows for Collectors

Last year this was the one of the hottest categories, with loads of nominations and votes for favorite shows. Do you still like the older shows the best or is there a new television show that is on your don't miss list and gets recorded every week on your DVR?
