Jim's Yearly Ornament Wreath

From Barbara Crews, About.com

Barbara Crews
Like many parents, we purchased ornaments every Christmas for our son Jim. It was always something that told a story of that particular year of his life. For instance, the years he played on a soccer team in elementary school or played baseball are represented with ornaments.

The original intention was to give him the ornaments for his own Christmas tree when he went out on his own, but I decided they might get misplaced or lost since he didn't really seem to be too interested.

My solution? Make a wreath with the yearly ornaments. I went hot glue gun crazy once again and made a wreath with a hodgepodge of pieces that were given to him over the years. Ornaments were wired when possible and glued when wiring wouldn't work.

When he is ready to take them, he'll have a wonderful wreath with memories of school ornaments, teams he played on and all the important things that interested him during his childhood. Meanwhile, it's a wonderful treasure for us to enjoy every Christmas.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Gluing plastic ornaments on a wreath will diminish their value, so take into account the pieces you are using. The values weren't of great concern, the completed wreath is more valuable to us than the price of any individual ornament.

Update:
A few years out of college when Jim got married, I sent them the wreath to their new home for their first Christmas together.
