I'll admit to being a bit skeptical about goblet featuring a landmark, but after a close-up look, I was won over. The goblets are well made, feel "good" in your hand and would certainly make a statement on the dinner table. Collectors could purchase the whole set, one at a time, or select the goblets that have the most personal meaning.
I love to use my stuff -- so (if I had a set) I would display the pieces, and would certainly use the goblets for special occasions. And of course I am very partial to the second goblet in the set, the Statue of Liberty, as it would upgrade my small collection of the Lady's memorabilia.
To me the only drawback is the price. The retail price of $90. is a little high to be an impulse item and would take deep pockets if a collector wanted a whole set of chalices.
- The solid pewter portion was made exclusively for The Global Chalice by Royal Selangor.
- The crystal bowl has a beautiful clear ring.
- The goblets are 9" tall.
- The first piece in the set is the Eiffel Tower, future goblets include Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed; Leaning Tower of Pisa; Big Ben and the Petronas Towers.
From The Global Chalice web site: "A fusion of passions for travel, wine, and functional design led to our forming The Global Chalice. Our goal is to create exquisite pewter goblets that are not only distinctive works of art to display, but are functional as well. That the first series of goblets portray instantly recognizable landmarks reflects our keen appreciation of travel and a touch of the romantic allure of visiting international icons."
