The March 2009 auction of the Donald Kaufman Antique Toy Collection was an amazing success grossing 4.2 million and breaking the Bertoia Auctions house record.
Part II:
September 2009, the second auction of the collection grossed approximately three million. The highlight was a Marklin Fire Pumper that sold for $150K.
The collection, which took 59 years go amass, had toy collectors flying in from around the world. Many came because of the reputation of the collection and to have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to view these antique toys.
Part III:
April 2010, the third auction had the added attraction of Kaufman's character toys!
Donald Kaufman was the co-founder of K-B Toys. He started collecting 59 years ago and it's said it would be hard to find a fellow toy collector who wasn't aware of his collection. According to Bertoia Auction the collection includes "many one-of-a-kind pieces, rare color variations, and other examples that aren’t even known to most enthusiasts".
