In January 2004, the Brady family of Bellemead, NJ, welcomed a new son and named him after his grandfather, Thomas. Young Tom’s mother, Pat, was well aware of the New England Patriots’ quarterback by the same name – all her other four children, ages 12 to 20, played football – so she decided to surround the newborn with items that sported his name.

Over the course of the year, Pat has collected some 30 Tom Brady items including a toy truck, a Mustang, Christmas hat, dinnerware set, rocker, clock, watch, blanket, key chain, min helmet, lunchbox, jack-in-the-box, figurines, cards, pins, pennants, pictures, two bobble heads, three bears, figurines, jackets, jerseys, t-shirts and pants, and even a 4’ inflatable player. Of the entire collection, the lunchbox is Pat’s favorite.

“Of course I knew who Tom Brady was,” says Pat, “but I didn’t put it all together until after my son was born. It was early in 2004 that I began collecting, buying him his first jersey just in time for the Superbowl. That also was when I first got into eBay.”

“My oldest son had been buying and selling there for some time, and I was looking for a Little Tykes Treehouse for the baby. I also decided to start searching for Tom Brady merchandise. I’d say that 95 percent of our Tom Brady items came from eBay. On average, I buy three or four items on the site every month at prices that vary with the value.”

Pat cites several advantages to doing her shopping on eBay. “The items on eBay are so reasonably priced,” she says, “and you usually can find anything you want without leaving your home, so it’s unbelievably convenient.”

She adds, “I think all the sellers I’ve dealt with have been very nice. I’ve never had any kind of problem with a purchase there. If you take the time to read the feedback, you can pretty much avoid any possible problems. The people at eBay are also very cordial and efficient. They’ve always gotten back to me very quickly with answers and advice. Now I’ve even got my husband hooked.”

Pat says, “The bottom line is it is fun to log on to eBay because you can discover things there that you can’t find anywhere else. Right now I’m looking for a Tom Brady jacket in an infant size for my son. The smallest size I’ve found, so far, has been an 8, but if anyone does make it, I know I’ll find it on eBay.”
