Department 56 Snowbabies were originally inspired by the early German snow babies. Stories of these early figures include: figures being made to commemorate the 1909 discovery of the North Pole; edible marzipan figures for cakes; and simply children playing in the snow. Discovering Snowbabies documents some of this history of the antique snowbabies and how they evolved into the delightful figures made today.
