Subway Series, Yankees vs Mets

You really have to grow up in New York to appreciate the rivalry that a Subway Series can generate. Back in the good ole days, of course, it was the Yankees vs the Dodgers vs the Giants. It didn't matter back then if the only New York team to make the World Series was the Yankees, if you were a Dodgers or Giants fan you rooted for the other team, even if it was from across the country!

The rivalry is still just as strong with the Mets and the Yankees. Just ask my family -- there are the Mets fans that still live in New York, the Yankees fans that live in the southwest and some baseball fans on the west coast that are afraid to take sides (they don't want to alienate either group). It does make for interesting family relations when the teams play each other.

Several years ago major league baseball went to the inter league play and the atmosphere when the Yankees and Mets meet is like a mini world series. But nothing would compare to the real thing, the first time these two teams would meet in the actual World Series in 2000. It was all about bragging rights . . . and they might as well have called a City Holiday! Baseball took over as the main topic of conversation around water coolers, on the bus, in stores, around the dinner table and of course while riding the infamous subway -- still the best way to get to the stadiums.

Checkerbee Publishing (no longer in business) took advantage of this great fan rivalry and published the Fan Guide for the Subway Series with almost 200 pages of baseball facts, pictures and memorabilia. Want to find out about a single game? Want an overview price guide on baseball memorabilia? Want to know what promotional items were available for the 2000 series and the issue price? It's all here in this inexpensive book. The price guide section of this book covers about fifty pages, probably not detailed enough for hard core baseball collectors, but a good overview for the casual collector. It specifically covers the New York teams.

This book belongs on the shelf of every Yankee or Mets fan and will be pulled out numerous times to settle an argument about the team players, plays of the games and the history for the fanatics of the game.

This book is no longer being published, but is available on the secondary market.
