Selling Online: Picture Taking Basics

By Barbara Crews, About.com

We've all seen eBay photographs full of junky items in the background or pictures that are too dark to see any of the item details. Even worse are the sideways pictures. I often wonder if folks don't care or they don't preview their auction listings.

It doesn't take much extra time to get a clean, uncluttered background with good lighting and there is no question that good pictures translates to higher selling prices.

Here are my solutions for taking better pictures:

  • My $25. Photo Studio
A few pieces of fabric, a couple of clamps from the hardware store and some professional photoflood light bulbs are all that's needed.
  • Photo Studio In-A-Box
This set-up is an excellent option for smaller items, it folds up compactly and the price is right.
  • BestLight Studio
This option works best for medium to larger items, with overall diffused lighting.
