Tips for Beginning Cartoon Glass Collectors

By Barbara Crews, About.com

  • Don't even consider buying a faded glass! Make sure the blacks are glossy and colors are bright. A faded glass is worth almost nothing.
  • Don't buy chipped or cracked glasses.
  • Check the registration of the glass. (e.g. When the color doesn't stay in the lines!)
  • Never put them in the dishwasher. Use and enjoy your glasses, but just be aware that hot water and dishwashing detergent are the enemies of the glass collector.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight.

Taking Pictures

  1. Use a neutral solid background.
  2. Shoot outside, if possible, on an overcast day.
  3. Don't put anything inside the glass, unless there is a lot white lettering or designs.
  4. Watch the angle, try to have both sides show.

Shipping

  1. When shipping, ALWAYS stand glasses upright in the box.
  2. Put a piece of cardboard between each glass, making sure they are not touching.
  3. Use lots of padding between the glass(es) and the box.
