Quick Tip: Misspell a Search Term

By Barbara Crews, About.com

It doesn't always pay to be a perfect speller! When you're doing an extensive search, try spelling the word wrong. This especially helps when the spelling is not always 100% clear.

Personal experience:
I was doing a search on eBay for the actress "Katharine Hepburn" and spelled it wrong the first time and wondered why there were so few listings. After thinking about it for a minute, I tried again (correcting my spelling) -- many more listings! Best of all, there were a few interesting items I would have never seen, if I spelled it right the first time.

For instance:
Katherine Hepburn -- 137 listings (incorrect spelling)
Katharine Hepburn -- 379 listings (correct spelling)
