Although best known for its milk products, Gail Borden won a medal over 150 years for a dried biscuit of wheat flour and beef that kept indefinitely. And in 1856 he received a patent for his condensed milk product -- making his mark many years before Elsie became their famous trademark at the 1939 World's Fair.
