By Barbara Crews, About.com

Even though more than four decades have passed since the death of Marilyn Monroe, she is still considered a sex symbol and popular icon. Marilyn lived a relatively short life, but packed so much into it that her pop culture influence still lives on today and includes many fans that were born long after she passed on.

Marilyn has been a constant fixture on Forbes' Top Earnings List of dead celebrities since the list was first introduced in 2001.

  • Born: June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles County
  • Baptised as Norma Jean Baker
  • Died: August 5, 1962 of a probable suicide

Autograph Collector Magazine reports on a "major error with a Marilyn Monroe signed photo. Now anyone can make an occasional error when authenticating, especially when the authentication is done in a hectic venue like the Road Show. But when the expert goes on with a narrative which is totally incorrect, it must be addressed."
