I am almost 40 years old and grew up loving what Mr. Schutz created -- Peanuts. My older sister nicknamed me Linus when I was a child, because I to carried a blanket that was dear to me. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Pepperment Patty, Sally,Schoeder and all will always be carried close to my heart. You're a good man Charles Schutz. I will miss you.

I'd like to share my memory of Mr. Shulz with you. I grew up in Santa Rosa Ca. Sparky's adopted home town. When I was very young I became sick and wasn't expected to make it. My sister knew how big a fan I was of Snoopy and wrote Mr. Shulz requesting a drawing. Instead of a drawing, Mr. Shulz came into my hospital room and painted a Peanuts mural on the wall.

We will miss you Sparky !

In 1966, I was in the 3rd grade in Loves Park, Illinois (close to Rockford). Charles Schultz was a guest at my church, Grace Lutheran, and at that time was promoting his book, "The Gospel According to Peanuts". I was lucky enough to not only meet Charles Schulz, but he autographed the book as well. I feel very fortunate to have had the pleasure to meet him and I will miss seeing new comics relating the day to day adventures of his Peanuts characters. Bless you Charles Schulz, for touching my life through your work. I watch "A Charlie Browns Christmas whenever I need a boost, be it December or July!

I always smile when thinking of Snoopy saying "I'm Allergic to Mornings". When I was in college I even drew a picture of him saying that, framed it and put it on my wall.

Peanuts cartoons will always hold a special place in our family's hearts. Last year, as our sister was in the hospital for a bone marrow transplant, we were looking for a creative way to decorate her doorway like so many of the other patients had done. Since Valentine's Day was so close, we picked up a box of Peanuts Valentines and made a HUGE Valentine for her door. Since Carla's donor was our little brother, we chose Lucy and LInus to represent them with little captions the read (Lucy) "Good Grief! I'm becoming my brother! Where's my blanket?" and (Linus) "you can have my bone marrow sis, but don't think of touching my blanket!"

We also used Snoopy valentines with the Happiness Is: theme, and had messages from everyone in our family. Even though we had some dark days, the Peanuts gang on the door reminded us to smile as we entered that room. And Happiness Is: having our little sister home healthy with us for this Valentine's Day. We will certainly miss Mr. Shultz and his wonderful characters.

As a writer, the one I've loved best is the Snoopy one where he gets a letter from a publisher rejecting his manuscript, all the ones he's written in the past and all the ones he will write in future. Loved it!

For years, I would tear out pages from some of the Peanuts coloring books, and write notes on them and leave them on the kids' beds, or send them to friends, or other family members as encouraging notes.

One of my favorites was Charlie Brown with a bag over his whole body... I used to write on that one, "God Doesn't Make Junk!".

> Another one I liked was Snoopy poking Woodstock in his nest. I would write "poke, poke poke!" as a hint that the kids needed to get their chores or homework done.

They have been part of my day for so long........I will miss all of them. What more is there to say.

From Mary. . .
One of my treasured possessions as a third-grader was a Lucy bank I received from my grandfather. My 3rd grade teacher at St. Eugene's, was this amazingly enlightened nun, Sister Judith Ann, who just ADORED Peanuts! She was also the first teacher to tell me I was a good writer! (So I credit my writing career in part to her encouragement.) I loved her so much, I gave her my Lucy bank as an end of the year present.

I also remember saving all my money to buy my best friend, Michelle, a present, when I was in the 5th grade. I saved a whole $4, and went to a gift store, and got her a pair of Woodstock enameled pierced earrings, which I thought were the absolute ultimate in cool! She loved them!!!!
