A cute and color dachshund named Waldi is known as the first official mascot for the Olympics, the first marketed as such. Waldi was created for the 1972 Munich Summer Games by the German designer Otl Aicher. Archer was involved in much of the design for the Munich Olympics, including designing the stick-like figures that depict the various sports. Recognizable, no matter what language is being spoken.
It's been reported that as many as two million Waldi items were sold, offered in various types of merchandise.
