Well, lucky for me Upper Deck took the words right out of my mouth by actually naming this product Epic.
And Epic it is five packs per box with a $50 price tag per pack suggested retail price, of course.
So, what should a hard-working consumer expect to see in a pack of Epic, let alone a full box?
For starters, all cards are serial-numbered. Second, you are guaranteed either an autograph or a memorabilia card per pack. And based upon the stellar lineup of superstar memorabilia cards I pulled from my box, Im pleasantly impressed.
Check out Beckett.com for a nice story on a 16-year old kid from the Midwest who pulled a quad-bat barrel from Epic. I wouldnt be able to do the card, let alone the lucky son-of-a-gun who pulled it, any justice by writing about it here. In this instance, a picture (and the corresponding news story) is worth at least a thousand words.
As for my box, my loot is as follows:
- Epic Super Swatch Ken Griffey Jr. serial-numbered to 50 (big grey OVERSIZED swatch)
- Game-jersey Ken Griffey Jr. serial-numbered to 150 with red stripe
- Game-jersey Reggie Jackson serial-numbered to 50
- Game-jersey Ryne Sandberg serial-numbered to 150
And let me tell you these arent your normal, run-of-the-mill base cards. They are super-high gloss mini-masterpieces. Exactly what you would come to expect from a $50 pack of baseball cards.
The only drawback with this product is the lack of a guaranteed autograph per box. Had this product been able to have made that claim, it would be perfect.
Either way, 2006 Upper Deck Epic is a top-shelf product that should be enjoyed by all. I thoroughly enjoyed ripping my box and I hope that you will be able to share in my experience by tearing through a box of your own.
Good luck with yours.
