Donruss Playoff 2004 Honors Football Sports Cards

From Mike Eisner's Sports Card Reviews, for About.com

Oct 31 2004
You have to give credit where credit is due.

This time around, the “props” go out to Donruss Playoff for their 2004 Honors football product – a prime example of the old adage: “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

From the insert ratios to the sheer style of the base cards, Playoff Honors packs a mean punch. As per usual, a hobby box of 2004 Playoff Honors is “guaranteed” to include an average of two memorabilia/autographed inserts per box. Now, that’s not to say that a randomly selected hobby box couldn’t contain five or six memorabilia/autograph cards. Keep that in mind.

In our box, we beat the odds.

Can I get a “whoop, whoop” for Playoff Honors?!

For starters, we scored an “Alma Mater Materials” game-worn jersey card of Rams rookie sensation Stephen Jackson.

In addition, we also scored a “Rookie Tandems” dual-memorabilia card that contained jersey swatches from Michael Clayton and Philip Rivers.

Last, but certainly not least, we pulled Rookie Jersey “Quads” which contained event-worn jersey swatches of Eli Manning and Michael Clayton among others. Did I mention that the card was serial-numbered to 250?

We also pulled a random assortment of serial-numbered rookie cards (three including Jonathan Vilma, a hometown New York Jets favorite) and other inserts including my personal favorite – a “Fans of the Game” Ray Romano.

The box of Honors we ripped was thoroughly enjoyable and provided a ton of bang for our buck, though we didn’t actually pay for our box (“let me give a shout-out to Rob at Donruss/Playoff for providing me with “da hook up”)

Ripping through a box or two of 2004 Playoff Honors is an affordable way to pull some nice cards and have a ton of fun while you are doing it. We can hardly wait until 2005 Honors comes out.
