Vandor's Classic Collectibles

By , About.com Guide

The Vandor Company was formed in 1957 by Ted Van Dorn, a pioneer in the tabletop industry. Van Dorn sold the company around 1991, at which time Vandor went through a bit of turmoil. The company was subsequently was purchased by The Lyon Company in 1995. Baby boomers and lovers of the classic pop collectibles have been smiling ever since -- everytime they get a look at all the fun products being produced.

In producing a new product, the Vandor company strives to meet their self imposed criteria. The icon/license must be nostalgic (at least 35 years old), it must be embraced by three generations and it must be still popular!

Looking at their products and catalogs you can tell this is exactly what they've done. Over the years licensees have included Betty Boop, Marilyn, Elvis, Mayberry, the Beatles, and the Grateful Dead (licensee from 1999-2006). But mix in a little Janis Joplin, some Scooby-doo, then stir in the Honeymooners and the Pink Panther for a perfect recipe of a fun company. Several of these licensees (such as Grateful Dead) are no longer in the Vandor family of products.

Shown is a selection of their popular jars.
