Every fall there's one Holiday Catalog that makes the news - The Neiman Marcus Christmas Book filled with wonderful items from the fantasy pieces to the more affordable gifts.
The famous Christmas Book started as a Christmas card in 1915. The card invited customers to start their holiday shopping. It wasn't until 1926 that the next Christmas catalog (16 pages) was produced.
1959 was the start of the unique gifts which Neiman Marcus has become famous for -- a Black Angus steer, delivered on the hoof or in steaks.

Every autumn journalists and television personalities have a little fun with the annual catalog published by Neiman Marcus -- the Christmas Book. There's always something outrageous, something fun, always something extravagant and always affordable gift.
The Christmas Book history goes back almost 100 years, but it wasn't until 1959 that it became well-known to those outside of Texas.
Each year customers eagerly wait to see the newest Christmas catalog with outrageous exclusives and, always interesting, His and Her gifts.
Just for fun here is a list of the items though out the years that were the designated couple gifts, along with the retail price of each item.
Looking for the perfect gift for a collector or maybe even yourself? Check out my favorite picks for collectors ranging in price from $1,090,000 - $25. Although I'd love, of course, to get anything from the catalog, I would be satisfied and happy even with the $25. pick!
The Neiman Marcus 2008 doesn't quite hold my interest as some of the previous books, I like to see the fun stuff instead of lots of fashion. This year's book doesn't seem to have quite as many holiday themed items as issues from a few years ago, but there's enough to keep collectors interest as they turn the pages to find the newest treasures.
This year's personal favorite? The LEGO life-size sculptures!
2007 was the 100th Anniversary of the Christmas Book with a look back at fashion through the decades Neiman's has been in business.
There are a few things that will interest collectors such as several pages of Jay Strongwater pieces that includes an enameled and crystal Dreidel selling for $350. Also shown is a Steuben "Celebration" Cupcake for $950., an exclusive $150. Madame Alexander doll and Christmas ornaments from Italy and Patricia Breen.
This year's offerings include a GG Quad four wheeler for $56,465; a 7' tall pencil skyscraper artwork from The Art Guys; an auction for a sports celebrity dream package for tickets to six major sports events benefiting the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation; and last, but certainly not least, a Galactic Space Charter for $1,764,000. There are other amazing gifts, but these are my highlights.
The Neiman Marcus 2004 catalog's top picks included a bowling alley for two -- only $1,450,000, a lifetime pass on American Airlines, a Zeppelin airship and a Grand Ole Opry appearance.
But it's not the fantasy gifts I covet, it's the gifts for collectors. And what do you get the collector that has everything? Something he doesn't have of course!
