My Two Entries include:
The
Internet Gift Swap
In the early days of the Internet, a group of collectors decided to have a Christmas present swap. Each person had a secret friend and the idea was to find something for that secret friend, something they liked to collect or would go with their collection. The limit was around $20. Because it was on the Internet, we all gathered near our computers at a specified time with our gifts in our laps ready to open them in turn and share our presents on the chat board.
Drumroll.
Depression glass plates for the glass collector, advertising tins for the tin collector, jars, dolls, toys, everyone got stuff they loved to collect.
And then it was my turn to open the box. Inside were about four pieces of cotton fabric, about half a yard each. I don't sew, didn't collect fabric and hated the colors, even if I did sew. Oh, it also included a gag gift of a "fake" Texas drivers license. Never did figure it how that fit what I collected.
Crocheted Tote Made from Blue Walmart Bags
With this small tote bag gift, the giver at least realized the present was going to be met with a puzzled look. They knew I was not a fan of Walmart, but couldn't resist getting a plastic crocheted bag for me. The scary thing is, that other people were apparently snatching these up at the craft show. The upside is -- it's made from the now-discontinued blue Walmart bags, so I guess it's collectible!
