Table top Christmas trees are a favorite decoration of mine around the house and there certainly are a lot to choose from, especially from CollectiblesToday.com.

The Thomas Kinkade holiday tree has a nice concept, has a clever twist and although I like it, it's not quite what it could be.

The Animated Tree

The tabletop Christmas tree from Thomas Kinkade is an animated and musical Christmas tree that comes in two pieces. The "inside portion" of the tree is a village nestled on a mountain with a little train that goes around the base of the mountain. There are three tiers of houses and villages.

The entire resin village/train/wooden base has a heavy hand-cut crystal tree that fits over it, the effect is a village seen inside the glass tree.

The Thomas Kinkade tree is musical, playing a medley of Christmas tunes.

The topper on the crystal portion is silver plate with simulated gems.

AC adapter is included, but batteries can also be used for the times no plug is handy.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  1. The crystal tree was very heavy, looked and felt looked well-made.
  2. The revolving train will delight the little ones, as well as train lovers.
  3. There is a volume switch for the music.
  4. The village lights up with a soft light.
Cons:
  1. The silver tree topper looked plastic to me, it was only upon touching it that I realized it was actually metal. According to the web site it is silver plate. Perhaps a bit of age will take away that look.
  2. The same soft light that was a pro above is actually a con for me -- I would appreciate the tree being slightly brighter. It was too dim to see the details very well.

Bottom Line

As mentioned above, table-top Christmas trees are a favorite way to decorate. They can take the place of a "real" tree in space challenged places and are especially good if someone is confined during the holiday season. Thomas Kinkade collectors will love this tree and if you like the subtle look, this is the one for you. Personally I would prefer it to be a little brighter, but as someone said -- I'm always into "over-the-top".
