We all know people just like the characters in the book. Her mother is still pushing her to get married -- how can she make a decision between nice Norm and exciting Mike? Her perfect sister, Andrea, is everything Hannah isn't, but doesn't want to be. In fact Andrea has a little mystery of her own that Hannah eventually solves. And thank goodness for her (new) partner Lisa, who takes care of all the little details at The Cookie Jar Bakery while Hannah works out the newest clues.
Author Joanne Fluke eventually has Hannah cracking the mystery, meanwhile tantalizing the reader with such vivid descriptions of the baking cookies that you can almost taste them. Thank goodness she gives us the recipes for these delicious sounding cookies, and speaking from personal experience, the recipes I tried are simply fabulous. There are eight recipes in the Blueberry Muffin Murder and the recipe for the Short Stack cookies is worth the price of the book alone. In fact, the recipe so intrigued me, that I wound up rising very early one morning and to make them for breakfast. (They taste and look like pancakes.)
This mystery is fun to read and proves a book doesn't need sex and violence to be a good seller and capture the reader's attention. Fluke takes along an appropriate cookie jar to her book signings and for this book, I am proud to say, I helped her find the perfect fit. Yes, Virginia, there is a Blueberry Muffin cookie jar!
