A great way to satisfy your bargain hunting urges is to visit the Oklahoma City's Largest Garage Sale held at the State Fairgrounds at the held the end of March.
There are dozens of charities and piles of stuff from trash to interesting collectibles. Although you have to sort through a lot of junk to find the goodies, a charity garage sale can reap good finds. Typically the people doing the pricing are not sentimentally attached to the items, therefore are willing to price it just to get rid of it.
Every year for the past 14 years, the Spring weekend finds bargain shoppers lining up early for the biggest sale in Oklahoma City. Started fourteen years ago by the Mental Health Association, a large building at the fairgrounds is rented and is open to any non-profit organization that wishes to participate.
In 1998 the organization of this annual event was taken over by the Southwestern Bell Pioneers, a huge volunteer resource that benefits our community in many ways. Over 81 volunteers from the Pioneers help work the garage sale They hope to raise about $10,000 for their organization from this event alone.
This year had approximately 46 organizations taking part, the groups are as diverse as the Romance Writers of Oklahoma, Fraternal Order of the Police, Lupus Foundation, scout troops and the biggest of all, Free to Live, fill the huge barn-like building.
