Fans now have more than the music, but a personal memento of Buddy Holly in the form of stuff he loved and lived with. Holly's widow Maria Elena consigned over 100 personal items to Heritage Auctions that were offered in a public auction in April 2006. Items included numerous personal photographs for a scrapbook he planned to create, suits, ties, jewelry items, unreleased music demos and as well as other personal effects.
The highlight of the auction was a gift Maria gave to Buddy as an early Christmas present.
From Heritage Auctions:
"The diamond and white gold Omega wristwatch is inscribed on the back, "Buddy Holly 12-1-58," the date his bride of four months gave it to him as an early Christmas present. It was recovered at the site of the plane crash by investigators and later worn by Holly's father in their hometown of Lubbock, Texas."
