With Mother’s Day around the corner, I collected some old vintage treasures that will bring back memories of yesteryear for mom and something for me too.

My first stop is a vintage consignment store with lots of cheaply priced costume jewelry. After selecting which pieces to use for my Mother’s Day gifts, my mind pictured a beautiful wire wrapped bracelet with the pendant, an old fashioned jewelry box with the cameo, and a pin cushion with the vintage crocheted doilies.

I was really lucky at the consignment store, since everything is consigned you can bargain down the prices with the sellers. What I do is pick out all the pieces I love, put them in a pile, and gently ask the store clerk if the seller would be willing to bargain down their prices. If the seller has had their items in the store for a long time they are always happy that someone is interested, and they will bargain down almost 75% many times.

While you’re looking for cheap pieces to repurpose, you may also find pieces that are signed (more valuable). I keep a magnifying glass in my purse just in case I see signatures that the seller may have missed.

Since I sell vintage pieces on Etsy, I have been lucky to find many valuable pieces for $1.00 – $2.00 and selling them for $20.00 - $300.00.

Before selling I make sure to research all the signed pieces so the buyer or potential buyer knows the background of the vintage designer piece offered for sale.
