Incredible Collectors: Glen Moore and the Dukes of Hazzard

By , About.com Guide

Glen Moore

There may be a lot of new Dukes of Hazzard stuff out, but for one collector -- his stuff is vintage and collected the hard way, in person!

Glen Moore has been avidly collecting Dukes stuff for almost twenty years -- it started when his grandson Justin became a big fan of the syndicated Dukes TV show. So, Glen, trying to be a good Grandpa, decided to start looking for and picking up goodies in their garage sale, thrift store and flea market shopping. The result is well over 150 items -- all Dukes of Hazzard goodies and all picked up at bargain prices, especially if you check the current auction results.

Today, it's a family affair with all three grandsons (Justin, Braxton, Zak) and Grandpa as avid collectors. Trips to Grandpa's house consist of Dukes of Hazzard marathons, checking out the newest goodies and trying to wheedle a few pieces away from Grandpa's collection to decorate a dorm room!

What's your most valuable item?
The item I paid the most for was my watch, it costs $35. new. But it's hard to say what's the most valuable, I didn't spend much on any one particular item and really don't track the values of the items I do have.

Where do you find most of your goodies?
Garage sales, thrift stores and we used to find a lot at flea markets too. We've also found a lot of stuff at close-out type stores. Of course then the product is usually mint in package and quite cheap.

Do you buy anything online?
Actually I think we've only bought one item online, a t-shirt. I've just decided not to get started doing that.

Have you cataloged your collection?
No, haven't done that yet.

Do you have a Holy Grail?
Yes I do -- if we ever win the lottery, it would have to be the ultimate collectible, the General Lee. A real Dukes of Hazzard car. And my grandson thinks I'll buy him one, as soon as we do win.

How do you display your collectibles?
Although we have our collections all over the house, most of the Dukes of Hazzard items are in bookcases in the bedroom.

If someone wanted to start collecting Dukes of Hazzard items, where should they start?
With the cars, there are lots of Dukes of Hazzard cars and models available. That would be the easiest and best way to start.

And of course the last question is -- How did you like the movie?
We enjoyed it, but it just wasn't the real thing and it was more than a little risque, especially when comparing it to the TV show.
