Christmas Crafts - - Broken Ornament Mirror

  • Flat edged mirror
  • Broken glass ornaments
  • Hot glue gun
  • Plastic bag
Although there are numerous ways to create a similar project, this is the way I created the mirror piece.

Remember wear safety glasses and gloves!

  1. Before starting, check the mirror to be sure there is a picture hook or wire to hang the mirror. It will be impossible to attach it after the project is completed.
  2. Place one ornament at a time in the plastic bag and gently break into medium/large pieces.
  3. Put hot glue on one small section of the mirror at a time, and gently (and carefully) place portions of the ornament pieces on the glue. Because the wooden frame was an antique gold, it wasn't necessary to completely cover it, parts are showing through!
  4. The tree "was" a stunning ornament that was too nice to break up, so I decided to put it in the corner of the frame as an accent piece. I love the way it reflects in the mirror.

Using small needle nose pliers, I broke off a few pieces of glass to "flatten" the back of the tree ornament. Then the tree was hot glued to the corner of the frame.

Note: I've considered putting a sealer on top of the small glass pieces, but haven't figured out the best one to use that won't cause the paint to dissolve. Also a fabric trim will be added to the outside frame of the mirror to protect against any sharp edges, but haven't found the right one!
