Scott Smith/Paul Gordon
Paul Gordon:
"There is nothing in particular that inspires a design, sometimes it's a lot of things or even a simple thing. It might be a lack of sleep, when I will wake up in the middle of the night with ideas popping into my head. Old children's books and illustrations can do it, or it might even be a piece of fabric that will inspire the whole design. Often I will sculpt a head and the story develops. I tend to do it a little backwards than most people."

"I read constantly and ideas come from just about everywhere. I might see a gourd and that will take me into a new design. Ive used gourds for both Halloween and Santa heads. My mom has even grown gourds that I've used and friends have saved me great looking pumpkin stems. The gourds and pumpkin stems are all dried for at least a year before being used in a design. They wind up being as sturdy as a piece of wood."

When asked what is new on the horizon, Paul said "it's always the next project that I am working on that gets me the most excited". And he admits that the purchase of a computer might actually be on his list of things to do in the near future.
