The 1999 Nashville Cookie Jar Show included a dinner
at the Ramada Inn for cookie jar collectors.
Carol Seman (with help from Dan!) was in charge of the arrangments and put together a great program.
There were many door
prizes and raffles, but the biggest prize for all of us was having Nelson and Billie
McCoy as the guest speakers.
Although, I knew it would be enjoyable to hear Nelson McCoy speak, I never realized
how delightful and personable he is. Nelson told of the history of the factory,
how design ideas were conceived and explained some jar making processes.
One of the more fascinating parts was when he explained how they made a jar on a jig and then told us how that same jar sold for around 18 cents. |

One fun part was when someone asked the inevitable question, "What is your favorite jar?"
His answer was the Kookie Kettle! After we all laughed, he
went on to explain how he was a business/sales man, and they sure did sell a lot of those
jars. Then we all really laughed and enjoyed his honest, funny, answer.

After he finished his talk, a question and answer session followed, with Nelson answering questions about the pottery. Billie made sure he gave the right answers! She was as delightful and charming person as her husband, and you could only smile as you listened to her speak. An extra bonus was the fantastic jars they brought to share. On the top shelf is the School Bus, and Books Jar. Next shelf held the Hillbilly Bear and Fox with Grapes. Then there is the Dog jar and the miniature dog cookie jar made just for this weekend. The bottom of the cabinet had the Lion jar. These jars were on display for all to see, and no, they were not entertaining offers! Here is a close up . . .

| The McCoys offered this miniature cookie jar for sale. This jar was only available at the Nashville weekend and is called the
Mac II. There are three jars in the Mac II series (that I know about) The one shown, marked Nashville,
a similar one marked McCoy Lovers Reunion and a jar with a tiny Christmas tree instead of a butterfly, marked
The McCoy Collection on the bottom. A big thanks to the McCoy and the Wintons for making this a very special evening for collectors. More >>> 1999 Don Winton Cookie Jar |
