Photographing Collectibles with a Digital Camera
My $25. Home Studio

Note: This is the equipment I used for years, a recent purchase of the Photo Studio In-A-Box by American Recorder makes most my work a lot easier. But I still use this light source when photographing larger items that don't fit "in the box".

These few inexpensive items help make up my "photo-studio" at home for $25. The Photoflood light bulb can be found at camera stores and the light socket can usually be found in the hardware department of most discount stores. If you are shooting a lot of pictures, make sure to keep an extra bulb on hand as they can burn out quickly when they get hot. Also, be sure to turn the lights off between shots -- the bulb gets VERY HOT in just a few minutes.

Equipment includes:

  1. Two of the metal light fixtures
  2. Two light bulbs
  3. Two solid pieces of drapeable fabric for the backdrop, one light and one dark.
