|
Although the Christmas Cracker tradition started over 150 years ago in England, they are still basically unknown here in the States. Crackers can, and are, used for many different holidays and special events -- from Christmas to weddings. Crackers can be easily handmade with a cardboard tube, some colored paper and a few little trinkets to put inside. A typical cracker will have a paper hat, a joke or motto, and a small treasure. Tin collectors will love these unusual tins made in the shape of a Christmas Cracker. They are from Bentley's Confectionery in the U.K. and have some candies inside the cylinder. Peter Kimpton tell us more about the Christmas cracker and the man behind the cracker in the article Tom Smith and the History of the Christmas Cracker. He has also written an illustrated book on the subject available on his web site The King of Crackers. |
