| Buyer Beware from Tech Live | |
There are numerous escrow services on the Internet and many of them look "very official", but are not. For instance one website (now shutdown) was www.us-escrow.com. They were making a play on the name of www.escrow.com, the only service backed by eBay and a financial institution.
A recent Tech Live TV show reported on "Steve" who purchased a $44,000. Porsche Boxster. He used what he thought was a valid escrow service, it wasn't. Both the seller and escrow service were apparently crooks and have disappeared with his money.
Steve said he feels it is a much bigger problem than eBay claims, he mentioned two other people that he knows of that were defrauded out of $50,000 and $38,000 respectively.
Reports have been filed with the local police and the FBI but apparently it's not a top priority with them.
All I can say is OUCH............ and be careful out there!
