After we finished with Debbie, Kris took us on a tour of the office. We found an art studio, a sewing studio, the shipping warehouse, customer service and an office
area for Debbie's Friendship Club, recently established for quilters and doll collectors. Catalog orders are filled for Debbie's paperwork products like her books, patterns
and note cards from the shipping warehouse. Debbie has published 26 books. Mumm's The Word moved into this office only two years ago and they are already in the
construction phase of a very large expansion!
Lining the hallways in the office are the quilts that have helped make Debbie famous. Her designs are sold only in quilt shops. South Sea Imports manufactures the
yardage and handles the distribution.
In two different storerooms, we found cookie jars! Some may have never been produced, like the Bee Hive "Honey" jar pictured on the china hutch.
The bottom of the jar has a sticker that says Sample 5/1 Sakura, Inc. NY. The Santa pictured hasn't been produced yet, but it will be!
I don't think that Debbie realizes that in the future her designs may well be as sought after as the legendary Don Winton's.
We collectors have a terrific opportunity to collect Debbie's jars while they are still very affordable. Check out her
website, then go to dinnerware, where you will find sources for purchasing Debbie's jars.
My gratitude goes to Debbie and her staff for letting us have a glimpse into Mumm's The Word. Debbie, I hope that you get your wish and continue
to work for many years; we love the designs that you and your staff are producing! Keep up the wonderful work!
