| Decorating A Christmas Tree -- Collectibles Style | |
|
How about a magical tree for the Harry Potter fans in your household? A tree in a child's bedroom would be magical with Harry Potter ornaments and other wizard items.
There are several companies that have produced Harry Potter licensed ornaments over the past few years. Look for ornaments from Kurt Adler, including Polonaise glass pieces, as well as pieces in a variety of materials. These would be perfect on a Wizard tree, but let's find some more items to add to the tree. Do you have any of the old Warner Bros Harry Potter key chains, the Golden Snitch or the Sorting Hat? The golden snitch be especially fabulous on a tree with the bright gold and iridescent colors.
If you are reading this before Halloween -- check out the Halloween decorations before they are all gone. You can find lots of light sets that would be great on a Harry Potter or wizard tree. Purple bats and ghost lights can be found in discount stores. Look for a sorcerer's hat to use as a tree topper and a few magic wands to stick in amongst the tree branches. What about some of the Ty Beanie babies that you might have from Halloween? They can also be used to tuck into the branches. The owl, bat, mouse or rat would fit in perfectly with the theme of this tree.
Hints
- Although the figural lights look great on a tree, use them only for an accent light.
- Use miniature gold and/or purple lights woven around the branches.
- Let your kids get involved by making some simple lightening symbols out of gold or silvery foil to hang from the tree branches
- Golden snitches made by painting a small ball gold and gluing on wings would be a fun and very easy project for the kids.
