Another popular area of glass collecting is, of course, the Welch's Jelly Glasses. Chase said that he
sees the Welch's glasses as having the most growth in the hobby over the next couple of years, suggesting that as a great way
for new collectors to start.
Did you realize there were
twenty-six different sets, dating back to 1953. It all started with Howdy Doody and has gone on to include
Davy Crockett, the Flintstones, Archie, Warner Bros, Dr. Suess to Peanuts in 2001.
Chase mentioned there are a lot of variations in these glasses, e.g. different impressed bottoms
and different colors that were used. It would take a lot of diligence (and probably impossible)
to track down a complete set of Welch's glasses that included
all the variations! He said one promotion that is getting hard to find is the relatively new
Dr. Suess series, a set of six from
1996.
Most of the Welch's glasses are very affordable. They appeal to both glass collectors and cross-collectors, e.g.
Peanuts collectors.
