Kaminski Special Edition Ornaments
Dateline: 07/17/00

NOTE: The history of this company has been interesting. At times the web site was "down", although I was assured the company was in business and then it appeared to go out of business. The collection also has changed hands, at least once. As of this writing (Spring 2005) I have been assured the company is in business, but I'm still waiting to get further information.

Since these are such beautiful ornaments and since collectors might find old pieces for sale in the secondary market, these pages will stay online for informational purposes.

Two years ago the Kaminski cousins, Don and Ken, started on their quest to honor the family heritage with a tribute to their Catholic religion. "They decided to design and produce a brilliant line of fine glass ornaments that were a tribute to the Catholic Church and to all Catholics everywhere. Their designs are to inspire joy and awaken the spiritual significance of their religion and the Christmas Holiday to people everywhere."

Their ideas, conceived during a family holiday, has lead them on a wonderful journey which has included Vatican meetings, trips to Poland, finding craftsmen worthy of producing these exquisite ornaments and of course the highlight of their adventure . . . . . actually meeting the Holy Father in June of 1999.

To find the right people to execute the designs they were visualizing, Don and Ken visited Poland's southern region, which they characterize as a hot-bed of glass manufacturers. Don estimates that are at least 300 different companies producing different types of hand-blown glass, a lot to visit when looking for a certain type of person and work. After finding just the right person, they worked on producing some prototypes to take back home to the States. The glass pieces were a hit and loved by everyone that saw them, including the people that counted -- the Vatican licensees. They are endorsed by the Vatican and the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Sitting Pope

There are over 100 different ornaments -- all limited editions of 10,000. Each piece comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a portion of the proceeds is donated to Vatican for use in their various charities. The first ornament of each edition goes to the Papal Museum and the second ornament produced is given to the Vatican.

There are many different categories in this collection. The main category is, of course, the Pope. The pieces show him in different robes and poses. Some of my favorites in this part of the collection are the ones showing the Pope with children. In one pose the Pope is holding a little baby, it's a wonderful unique piece.

This collection really struck me with the realistic faces and with the rich, vibrant colors. The look of the fabric draping on the robes and the lifelike poses are another testament to the artistry of the craftsmen. The pieces are not glitzy or glittery, just brilliant, deep colors and a look of fine sculpture.

St. Ann

Other categories include Saints; a group of angels unlike any other angel ornaments you might have seen; and two Mother Theresa pieces. The Jubilee Millennium is well represented in ornaments including a spectacular gold piece called "The Dove from the Window in St. Peter's Basilica".

These very special pieces are more than just ornaments for your tree, they are glass sculptures that can be displayed with pride all year long. Just a look at them will tell you how much love and effort have gone into producing a quality product that also is a testament to the Kaminskis' and their beliefs.
