Susan Cherry Designs is a fairly new company (late 90's), it's already making its mark in the Christmas World of Collecting. The simple designs bring a breath of fresh air to the ornament scene. Nothing garish, scary or too intricate, the pieces are very affordable and will bring out the kid in everyone.

Susan has been involved in the arts and crafts world for many years, perhaps it was a way of staying sane while living in many different spots around the country. She has done everything from decorating the Governor's Mansion in Oklahoma to owning a tearoom and catering business (Roses and Old Lace) in Houston, as well as developing fabric and quilt patterns while doing soft sculptures. Although Susan loved doing the tearoom, it was hard on the rest of the family. So three years ago when someone suggested turning her fabric sculptures into glass ornaments she was eager to try it. The business has exploded and in only three years of business her clients include Harrods of London, Longabergers, Saks, Bonners, Crate & Barrel, Pfaltzgraff, Creative Irish Gift Catalog and Catalog Ventures.

Susan has always been a seamstress -- creating and selling her works of art at craft fairs and stores. Now, even though her ornaments are glass, she still creates all her designs with fabric. Her daughter Jennifer said, "It's amazing, she will sit down with a piece of fabric, a needle and thread and a little while later, there's an adorable little pig". The fabric sculptures are sent to the factory to interpret into glass and then sent back Houston for approval and refinements. Many of the ornaments have embellishments of fabrics and ribbons, as well as a special long-stranded glitter that looks almost like fur!

Susan's different method of designing her pieces creates the unique "Susan Cherry look" -- cute, whimsical and with a soft, touchable look.
