The Movie & Collecting
Dateline: 05/22/01

Take the 60th Anniversary of a World changing historical event, add some Hollywood into the the mix and the next thing you know, there will be more "hot" collectibles this Summer. But although WW II collectibles will probably see a new spike in popularity, the last few years have already seen an increase in the collectors of militaria.

Memorabilia can include numerous items such as paper, propaganda materials, patches, military paraphernalia, medals, uniforms, and weapons. Although WW II memorabilia can be found from all the countries involved, many collectors will specialize in one particular aspect, either by country or type of item. As in all collecting, it is important to be knowledgeable about reproductions. Be especially careful when looking at or purchasing WWII Nazi items.

"According to Josh Berner on eAppraisals, "A multitude of recent World War II-related movies, such as Saving Private Ryan, and bestselling books, including The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw, have kept WWII on the minds of many.

Later this year will be the 60th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, but Hollywood is marking this anniversary a few months early with their blockbuster of a movie -- Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbor, the movie, had its premiere on Monday, May 21, 2001 and was billed the biggest Movie Premiere ever. They achieved this by having it on the aircraft carrier the John C. Stennis at the spot it all started -- at Pearl Harbor.
