Julie:not a question....just a thank you for all of your jars. Don & Norma Winton: Thank you. Don & Norma Winton:We are glad people are interested in coming to this chat. Sandi:We are glad you and Mrs. Winton are here! Don & Norma Winton:We are very pleased that you want to now about the Wintons, instead of us riding into the sunset. LuckycjIt's quite a privilege Mr. Winton Smoky:Have you been invited to the White House recently? Don & Norma Winton:No, but we were invited up to see Pres. Reagan, we would not go to the White House at this time (2000). Smoky:Did the Nixons invite you to the White House? Don & Norma Winton:Smoky, No, but I did his portrait for a medallion back in the sixties, when Nixon was in office. Lyn:It would be wonderful to have a commemorative Ronald Reagan jar--with him dressed in a cowboy shirt and hat. Don & Norma Winton:Lyn, that is an interesting request I would love to do one. Lyn:I know you would do an excellent job. Breezy:Don, Are you still doing the Safari series? Don & Norma Winton:No Safari series. I did the sculpture, but didn't have enough response. That line is actually open to anyone that wants to pick it up. CrazyCouple:Do you know what happened with the Twin Winton Club? I joined and never heard anything else. Don & Norma Winton:That was Mike Ellis' club and we were not really connected with it Mike just ran out of time, he has a business of his own. CrazyCouple:Thanks. Just wondered! Don & Norma Winton:Mike has talked about starting it up again, but he has learned a lot and might do it differently if he does start it up. CrazyCouple:You should consider doing more ceramic banks. The Lion King was really great. I'm glad I got one last year. Don & Norma Winton:I love to make banks, they go fast. I can do a bunch of them, cookie jars take a lot longer. CrazyCouple:You have others? I didn't know, other than the old ones. JanSue:What banks have you made? Don & Norma Winton:It is an idea, we might consider doing some banks. Yes, Jim, but I would have to think about it.. do you mean old ones or new? CrazyCouple:I have some of the old ones from the book, but would love some new ones. Don & Norma Winton:I did an elephant cookie jar, a cowboy cookie jar and I did a little cowboy elephant bank, and that has never been painted. It is sitting around in the studio, it is one of a kind. I did it as a demonstration of it at the Museum. CrazyCouple:I have the Sailor elephant bank from Twin Winton. Really nice, but the only one I have seen. Donna:Is there a reason that we see colored Winton jars. Don & Norma Winton:The color line was started as a Collector Series. Acrylic paints over a bisque jar and it was glazed on the inside. I feel that was the best representations of my jars. I have been trying to find a little elf sitting on a stump. I could have bought it for 7.50 at the factory back then -- the colored ones. The stained ones were $3.50 from the factory, what is wrong with this picture that I am looking for one now. Donna:I just got the Collector Sseries elf jar the other day Cam:Does it take a long time to make a cookie jar? Don & Norma Winton:Cam.. it depends on the intricate designs, it could take a week to two weeks. I make a sketch first, then I rough it in with clay. I finish it off, I like to colorize the sketch, I really enjoy doing the sketch colorization. CrazyCouple:Still getting antsy on the planes and looking for a pencil? Don & Norma Winton:Oh yeah, I still sketch on the plane Make a note of that Norma, I want to take a sketch pad with me. Go to Page Four |
