Who is Don Winton?
If you are a cookie jar collector you know exactly who he is, but
if you are not -- let me tell you how he's probably touched your lives.
Are you a Disney Collector?
Do you have Mickey Mouse phone with Mickey in a standing position holding the receiver?
Winton designed it. Winton has been a freelance sculptor with Disney starting in the 1950's until the present time. Perhaps
you were a Snoopy fan and had the Snoopy telephone? Yes, he did that one as well!
Have you ever watched the Award Shows?
Winton designed one of the Emmy Awards and the award still used for the Academy of Country Music presentations.
Heard of the Rose Bowl Parade?
Don met his future wife, Norma, when he offered to sculpt a bust of the Rose Queen. She was chosen as the Rose Queen in
1947 and they were married in 1948.
They became good friends with Bob Hope, who was the Grand Marshal of the Rose Bowl parade,
and he gave the couple a silver punch bowl for a wedding present.
Have you ever been to a Presidential Library?
Winton sculpted the Reagan bust in his Presidential Library, as well as
several medals that are sold in the gift shop. He has also had commissions for the Nixon Presidential Library.
Baseball Fan?
Did you know that Winton played college football with Jackie Robinson? They were good friends and he relates
how Jackie played four sports in school and baseball was not the one Robinson excelled in.
Cookie Jar Collector?
Just in case you do not know it, Winton is one of the Twin Wintons. But he also designed jars for other companies, as well as
jars for Mold companies.
