If you've been a regular or even occasional pop-in visitor to Chat, you've probably met Sandi from the State of Washington! Sandi's "fun" personality comes flying across the internet lines during our chatting and
she is always ready to help someone or give me a hint to use in the newsletter.

Recently I asked her if she would volunteer to be the first in our Collector Spotlight, she agreed to tell us more about herself. Sandi has been collecting cookie jars for over nine years, with 164 jars.. .
Why 164? She can display about 160 and hates to put any of her jars away.
She loves character, Shawnee, black, holiday and advertising jars. She says she is pretty hard to impress at this point in her collecting - but she was really impressed with the Boyd Bear jars! Sandi loves these "triple" collectible jars (bears, Boyd's bear and cookie jars) and hopes
they are made in enough quantity that everyone can purchase them. She says they are
excellent weight, great quality and well glazed with painstaking detail on the jars. |

| Last year Sandi was thrilled to be able to add an ABC Pennsylvania
Dutch Couple and a Shawnee Great Northern Dutch Girl in green.... She still looks
for old jars but the prices are a real factor in buying.
Sandi says "Perhaps the nicest comment I ever had on my collection is -it's such a
happy looking collection. - I guess the color and cheerfulness of the
jars are what I like".
Sandi continues on, "My fantasy this year is a Hubert the Lion cookie jar for $200.00
or under. Well, it doesn't hurt to dream right?
"Who would have thought
I'd find a mint ABC Sitting Horse for $125.00, or a Deforest Pony Tail
Girl for $200.00 or a Calif. Originals Pinocchio for $125.00?" |

Sandi has learned over the years to buy what she likes and to realize that a
collection evolves with what you are able to find and afford, rather
than just ordering from a catalog. She says "The fun is in the hunt. Turning
that corner and seeing the jar you have been searching for is way too
cool of a feeling!! I believe the lament of the cookie jar collector is
"I'm broke and out of room!!"
Sandi's advice to new collectors is - enjoy the hunt, educate yourselves and
collect what makes you smile. Good advice for us all new and old!
