Guide Picks - Top Free Email Newsletters for Collectors
Although I am a fanatic about newspapers, magazines and books, the best and fastest way to get the news about our
collecting passions is through email newsletters.
And although I hate to add more mail to my email box, it would be impossible to keep up the Collectibles web site without reading all I can
about antiques and collectible news.
The following newsletters are terrific and my top picks for keeping collectors informed
on the what's going on in the collecting world.
There are numerous other email newsletters that deal with specific collectibles and it would be a good idea to seek
out the ones that are in our field of interest. Send me links to your favorite free email newsletters!
1) AuctionBytes - Daily and/or Monthly
There is not much I can say about this free newsletter, except if you buy or sell online -- Why aren't you on the subscriber list?
A no-holds barred look at online auctions, including legal, fraud, shipping, and selling issues.
If this sounds boring to you -- it's not! I learn something every time I read an issue. It might be
a link I was not aware of,
a new service being offered or a way to stop image theft. There are two different newsletters - a twice monthly update and a daily newsflash.
üAll advertisements are clearly labeled!
2)
Antiques and Collecting Newsletter - Monthly
Ron McCoy was one of the first to do a free email newsletter and is still doing a super job eight years later.
His newsletters are always fresh and each month is a mixture of
interesting collectible links and articles. Where
else would I find information on everything from
Elvis' face on Tennessee State Quarters to DaVinci as a Master Draftsman?
üThe only advertisements are the from Topica, the provider of the free newsletter service.
3) Ms Janie - Daily on weekdays.
Every morning I look forward to reading Ms. Janie's (weekday) newsletter. Her newsletters make you feel she is writing you a personal note.
She typically has news releases, product information and "What Happened on This Day". Although other collectibles are discussed, and linked to,
the main focus is for TY Collectors. And if there is something new on the TY web site -- she sends
out a Newsflash during the day, not waiting until the next day's regular issue. If you are a TY collector, this newsletter is a must!
üAdvertisements are the from Topica, the provider of the free newsletter service, and a few
advertisements for online Beanie Baby shops are clearly labeled.
4) TIAS - Every three or four days
A lengthy text newsletter covering a variety of topics. Usually an interesting collector's story or two,
"vintage" recipes, and links to other sites. Numerous links are given to dealers in their online mall.
There are a few advertisements in each newsletter,
usually to collecting resources and services. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between the advertisements and the newsletter articles.
5) Ruby Lane - Twice a month
Ruby Lane takes advantage of their knowledgeable dealers with background articles, information and tips usually
written by them. Their articles are especially helpful when you are not familiar with a particular item or line of collectibles.
Issues come out about twice a month and, as would be expected, heavy with links to the dealers in their mall.
The Cookie Jar Digest - Twice a month
I couldn't do this article without a small plug for the Cookie Jar Digest, an
email newsletter for Jar Collectors, published since
June 1997.
