So, what are my baseball memories?
I Remember
hating the Yankees and the Giants with a passion only another Brooklyn kid
could appreciate.
the sounds of the game on the radio in the hot, sticky summer evenings.
the World Series parade through Brooklyn when WE finally won!
my dad sending me for the New York Daily News each evening as soon as
it came out to read about his beloved baseball.
The disbelief and pain when the Dodgers really did move to the other side of the world.
Fast Forwarding, I Also Remember
freezing in Candlestick park in the middle of the summer.
climbing numerous ramps at Busch Stadium to watch the same players we just saw the week before in
a minor league game (got promoted when teams expand in late summer).
watching Jose Canseco pitch in a baseball game during a Texas Rangers exhibition game in Oklahoma City.
of one of the ultimate of All American games. . .
Watching Nolan Ryan pitch against the Yankees on the Fourth of July and winning the game.
And I Can Never Forget
Ron's, my son-in-law, reaction to meeting George Brett, his all time favorite player.
We bought tickets for the last series of
the year when Brett was retiring -- Rangers vs Royals.
My son-in-law couldn't sleep one night and went outside the hotel for a cigarette.
He wound up talking to a Royals player for quite a while as he was checking in players for the night.
When Brett got back to the hotel, the player introduced Ron to his hero.
Ron didn't wash his hand for a month!
All of these reasons and many more are why we love baseball and why we have numerous baseball collectibles in our home.
They bring back the memories!
