Incredible Collectors -- The M & M's Collectors Club
<< Displaying/Holy Grail? | Most Popular Items/Club | 3-D Peek & View Easter Egg >>
As the club president you are in touch with lots of collectors -- what are the most popular M & M items to collect?
Toppers, dispensers and ceramic items--especially the cars! There is also a group that really enjoys advertising. This group constantly lets each other know when they find an advertisement and share information about the new ads that show up in magazines, newspapers and even tear-offs in the stores. The older ads are becoming valuable and since the artwork changes constantly, the candy bags are also collected. I have notebooks full of empty bags and notebooks of M & M advertisements.

Any tips for new collectors?
When collecting M & M goodies -- the older the better. For instance older candy boxes, stuff before the characters had personalities. If you have the opportunity to get out to flea markets and auctions -- go!

Don't worry about the "numbers" or how many you have. I know lots of people that collect, with only one shelfful of collectibles. It isn't the quantity, it's the enjoyment that you get from collecting.

Don't be afraid if people giggle and laugh when they hear you collect M & Ms, there are thousands of folks are out who also love these happy collectibles. You'll end up finding new friends and add a lot of happiness into your life. The end result is more than you can imagine as we have been blessed with many new friends, been featured on TV shows and in newspapers. Now those same folks that giggled and laughed now ask questions. And you might as well collect something that makes you happy.

Since you've been with The M & M's Collectors Club since the beginning, can you tell us a little more about it.
Our club stared in 1998 and now numbers close to 500 members. It costs $20. per year to join, which includes six mailed newsletters. We have a series of regional picnics -- this year the club is slated to host about ten picnics around the country. And we have a yearly convention that will be held in Middletown Pennsylvania in May (near the Elizabethtown candy plant). We're excited about hosting company retirees as our special guests at the Saturday lunch.

The club has a very active bulletin board where members can swap news and regional M & M items. We also have started a doing a set of limited edition pins, when completed the series will form a train. Please check out our web site to find out more about M & M collecting and information on joining the club!
