Christmas 2003, Decorating with Collectibles
Touring the Living Room

The best thing about collecting is using all the stuff to decorate. Christmas is when I usually go all out, pulling out all my Santas, displaying lots of holiday cookie jars and decorating quite a few trees. Unfortunately this year I've not been able to decorate as much as I normally do, but there are still a few things I am particularly happy with.

The long living room is always a challenge and this year I went with a 7' white metal tree filled with approximately 150 gold, white and red glass ornaments. To make the tree stand out even more, it's in a rotating tree stand and raised about 24". The glow of the lights and ornaments makes the whole room sparkle.

The trunk was wrapped in gold garland and has an assortment of Breen, Radko, Slavic and Fraga ornaments. Although the rotating stand works great and feels very stable, I did wire it to the metal table it sits on.

On the living room fireplace are two 5' feather trees with approximately 50
ornaments each, the mantle has a collection of Christmas tree cookie jars.

In a bay window on the other end of the living room a collection of cheery plastic Santas wave to passerbys.

I wish I could take credit for the idea of using an "outdoor" white metal tree in a rotating stand, but I must credit Terry Zinn for his fabulous decorations which always inspire me!
