Advertising Cookie Jars, Part I -- 1998 Issues
Barbara Schwarz of Past and Presents

Although this is "old news", the article is being kept up for resource information.

This has been a great year for cookie jar collectors- there has been an amazing number of great new jars that have come out this year. And if you like Advertising jars (as many of us do) you are really having a banner year. There have been some really good jars that have come out already this year and the best is definitely yet to come.

Storyteller Arts, who makes the Indian Storyteller jar (among others) was approached by Taco Bell to make a taco holder for them. They asked Taco Bell if they could make a Chihuahua cookie jar and Taco Bell said they could, but it isn't licensed by Taco Bell and doesn't say Taco Bell on it. It's a cute jar and is obviously looks just like the Taco Bell dog.

There are some really nice new Hershey's jars out, including the Silver Kiss and the Gold (almond) Kiss. These are very popular jars. Another one has just come out - a Hershey's Cow cookie jar that says "Hershey's Milk Chocolate" on the side. It's a really cute jar and different than most of the advertising jars that feature well-known products or characters.

Speaking of well-known characters, there was a new Pillsbury Poppin' Fresh jar brought out this Spring, which features a Poppin' Fresh holding a tray of cookies. There are matching S & P's for this jar as well. It is the fourth Poppin' Fresh jar that has been made by Benjamin & Medwin.

Another new jar from Benjamin & Medwin this year is the Campbell's Kids jar. This jar has just come on the market in the last couple of weeks and is a Campbell's Soup can with the Campbell kids coming out of the top. Benjamin & Medwin jars are not the greatest quality in the world, but they are cute and quite inexpensive.

There was an Oreo Jar in the Nabisco catalog a couple of years ago, which was a stack of Oreo's with the Oreo guy on top. This year another company has come out with an Oreo cookie jar that is a glass of milk with an oreo being dipped into the milk.
