It’s been 11 years since Donruss unleashed the Studio brand on the hobby. I can vividly remember the buzz surrounding the initial release back in 1992. The innovative, throwback photography coupled with the high-gloss card stock, created quite a stir amongst the hobby elite. Fast-forward 11 years and that same aura is stashed inside every pack of 2003 Donruss Studio.

I would also like to point out that Donruss has continued their “Hot Box” trend with an average of 2 hot boxes per case. Donruss also focused their energy on the “Big League Challenge” by including a memorabilia set featuring the participants in the 2002 Big League Challenge, including Albert Pujols and Barry Bonds. Aside from this memorabilia set, there are a ton of others to choose from including some really nice autographed inserts. Here’s a quick look into the contents of 2003 Donruss Studio Baseball:

  • Inserts/Parallels
  • Studio Proofs (serial #'d to 100)
  • Private Signings (serial #'d between 5 and 200)
  • 50 Big League Challenge (serial #'d to 400)
  • 50 Big League Challenge Proofs (serial #'d to 25)
  • 16 Big League Challenge Materials (1:20)
  • 10 Big League Challenge Prime Materials (serial #'d between 50 and 100)
  • 50 Enshrinement (serial #'d to 750)
  • 50 Enshrinement Proofs (serial #'d to 20 or 21)
  • 35 Enshrinement Autographs (serial #'d between 5 and 100)
  • 40 Leather and Lumber (serial #'d between 25 and 400)
  • 35 Spirit of the Game (serial #'d to 1250)
  • Spirit of MLB (only 1 of each available!!!)
  • 25 Masterstrokes (serial #'d to 1000)
  • 25 Masterstrokes Artist Proofs (serial #'d to 50)
  • 50 Studio Stars (1:5)
  • 50 Studio Stars Gold (serial #'d to 100)
  • 50 Studio Stars Platinum (serial #'d to 25)
  • 100 Player Collection (serial #'d to 300)

With a 200-card base set, Studio baseball packs some punch. The $3.99 per pack price point, once again, is well within reach of the average hobbyist. Each box of Studio contains 20 packs with 5 cards in each. With so many products on the market to choose from, Donruss Studio baseball should be at the top of everyone’s list.
