The first sports-themed game in the collectible miniatures game (CMG) market, MLB SportsClix offers game players the chance to act as managers, collecting and trading the miniature players to create their own all-star team.
"MLB SportsClix gives baseball fans the chance to decide starting lineups, where to play the fielders and what type of pitches to throw," said Executive Vice President of Topps Scott Silverstein. "It simulates what it' s like to make the important decisions that affect the outcome of a real major league game."
Licensed under Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, MLB SportsClix features major-leaguers from the American and National Leagues and incorporates actual 2003 player statistics into the base of each game piece.
"Baseball is a natural fit for our games," said WizKids CEO Jordan Weisman. "The collectible figures, actual player statistics, and game strategies of the sport lend themselves perfectly to a CMG."
MLB SportsClix will offer a Series One and Series Two Starter Kit, retailing at $19.99 each. Each Starter Kit contains nine figures, a stadium playmat, dice, and rules. Three-figure Booster Packs will be available to build players' collections for $6.99. MLB SportsClix will hit shelves in game and hobby stores throughout the country on Wednesday, February 25, 2004.
