At the last moment before Fleer's National Trading Card Day sets hit the press Alex Rodriguez was traded from the Texas Rangers to the New York Yankees. This created quite the problem as Fleer was featuring Rodriguez in the set. The cards were pulled from production and Fleer's photo department went to work at the eleventh hour and captured some photos from A-Rod's first appearance as a New York Yankee. The selected photo from A-Rod's first full work out day was then rushed to production and inserted onto the card for final approval and printing. Both MLB Properties and the MLBPA were very helpful in the process of getting this completed.
"We pride ourselves in making sure all our sets are as up to date as possible and the NTCD set is no different," said Fleer spokesman Joshua Perlman. "In the end we believe the last minute change might even have an impact on the collectibility of the set as a whole."
