In a word – spectacular.

That is the only adjective that I can think of to describe the excitement surrounding Upper Deck’s foray into the high-end “one autograph per tin” genre – 2003-04 SP Signature Basketball.

We were fortunate enough to score 2 tins to rip open and enjoy.

The first tin contained a Reggie Miller autograph. First and foremost, Miller doesn’t have too many certified autographs to choose from, so this one is a keeper for me. Couple that with the fact that he is a sure-fire hall-of-famer, and you’ve got yourself quite a pull.

The second tin yielded a gold parallel autograph of Reece Gaines, serial-numbered to just 50 copies. Gaines was a high first-round draft pick last year for the Orlando Magic and has shown some flashes throughout the season.

In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with SP Signature. There are dual and triple autographs serial-numbered as low as 1. Each pack is guaranteed to contain a certified autograph from a current or past star or rookie.

The checklist boasts the likes of LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, Larry Bird, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Kevin Garnett and Michael Jordan. In addition to the superstars on the court, Upper Deck decided to throw a curveball by including autographs from such off the court stars as Spike Lee, Summer Sanders and Cheryl Miller, just to name a few.

Upper Deck’s 2003-04 SP Signature Basketball takes hoops collecting to a whole new level.
