With all the hype that past renditions of "Tribute" generated due to a checklist that consisted solely of retired greats, it’s no wonder why Topps decided to cross over to the other side, so to speak, and pay Tribute to today’s superstars.

Contained in every pack of Topps Tribute Contemporary Collection is a virtual who’s who of baseball today – from future Hall-of-Famer Sammy Sosa right on down to future star, and former #1 draft-pick, Bryan Bullington. As the short, portly dude from the old Ragu commercials used to say: "It’s in there!"

And believe me when I tell you – he wasn’t kidding.

A pack of Contemporary Collection retails for $50 each and contains at least one game-used relic or certified autograph card. In fact, some packs may contain both.

For those of you that enjoy serial-numbered parallels, Contemporary Collection has those too. And, in abundance, I might add.

From Barry Bonds triple-relics to Babe Ruth/Barry Bonds/Hank Aaron/Willie Mays quadruple relics, this set has something for everyone.

The box that I cracked open was loaded to the brim with relics and autographs. In fact, I was lucky enough to pull 2 autographs (Hanley Ramirez and Cliff Floyd), as well as a Barry Bonds triple relic (#/50), Rickey Henderson dual relic (#/50) and a Nomar Garciaparra dual bat/jersey relic.

My best pull, however, was a "40/40" triple-relic consisting of memorabilia pieces of Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Jose Canseco. Needless to say, I was very happy with that pull!

As usual, the base cards are as high-end as you can get and are very collectible. I thoroughly enjoyed the top-notch photography and futuristic design.

Please be forewarned that Topps Tribute Contemporary Collection may not be for everyone. It is quite pricey at $50 per pack, but in fairness, it is the best high-end pack on the market – period.

It continues to amaze me what Topps can stuff in a $50 pack as compared to what other products are offering in $100 packs.

Kudos to Topps for providing the hobby with such a fitting tribute.
